Things I'd like to get paid to do
I bought a truckload of magazines yesterday, and it reminded me of all the things that I'd like to get paid to do while living overseas. Writers' Forum is a UK magazine that features people and the different sorts of writing that they've had commercial success with. I've only written tech articles to date, but I'd love to write a fiction novel some day, or maybe a screenplay. So I've gone and signed up with a distance learning creative writing course. Do these things really work? I suppose I'll give it a go. They guarantee that if you don't earn back the money you paid for tuition in six months through writing, they'll refund your money.
Two other magazines I bought were Digital Video (another UK mag) and Better Photography (an Australian title). I have fantasies of being able to take beautiful pictures while I'm overseas of all the weird and wonderful things I encounter, but my photography skills aren't that great. Camera Craft 1 at the Australian Centre for Photography is a course that I've been wanting to do for awhile, and Tim's interested in it too (he's much better at photo composition than I am!). I had another thought: Tim could work as a photographer while we're overseas and we could work as a team - him taking photos, me writing the articles. Apparently there's a lot of demand in magazines for those that can do the whole package. There's also the option for selling photos online through sites like ShutterPoint and Fotolia.
Video editing is something that I'm just dabbling in, but it's lots of fun! Again, I'd like to take lots of travel videos, teach myself about editing, then upload a series of them to YouTube.
